iPod Video 5.5 doesn't shut down correctly
Chris Christmas:
I have an iPod 5.5 30 GB with latest RockBox.
Everything works fine, including themes and icons.
But there is a small problem: If I use the play/pause-button to shut down the iPod, i cannot boot it up again by pressing the select-button. I have to reboot it with select+menu (pushed about 15 seconds)!
While it is in this "state", there is also no response if I plug it in my PC!
If the iPod shuts himself down via timer, I can boot it up regulary and plugging into my PC works as well (disk mode and battery charging)!
Why is there no "ShutDown" menu-item? I couln't read s.th. about this behaviour in the manual, so I try to get help here.
Chronon:
It sounds like your iPod does not shut down correctly and sits there frozen until you hard reset it. I don't have one of these targets so I will be of limited use here. However, please provide which revision you are using and describe whether this is a new or ongoing problem -- i.e. has this persisted across multiple builds?
Also, abbreviations (s. th., for instance) are not allowed on these forums (as mentioned in the forum guidelines).
Chris Christmas:
I am a newbie here and I got Rockbox since yesterday so i cannot tell you if it also occurs on older builds.
And there is another curious thing: It doesn't freeze every time, it's kinda random when it freezes, independend on what i'm doing with the ipod (idling, mp3, mpeg, jpeg).
Rockbox-Version:
r14943-071001
Sorry about the abbreviation.

are you sure this doesn't happen due to a flat battery?

In which state? When rebooting using Select + Menu or in the shut down mode?

Why should there be one? You can shut down the Ipod by holding a button (the way it works on almost all targets) and a separate item in the menu for shutdown is simply superfluous.
Llorean:
I actually think a menu item for shutting down would be useful for some people (broken or unreliable play-pause button, or never having to worry if you pressed it long enough or accidentally reboot it immediately after) but it wouldn't solve this problem.
A shutdown menu entry would do the same thing as holding the button, and you'd just end up with the same freeze if it's freezing.
