new to wps scripting
« on: October 03, 2007, 11:43:18 AM »
ok so im just now getting into scripting and i have a few question. like what makes a good scripter? also if you release a wps for ipod only (this is what i have) do you also have to release one for other MP3's as well? also is there any hints and or tricks of the trade for a new scripter?

thanks

Well firstly, it's important to read through the wiki pages on While Playing Screens (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SimpleGuideToWPSMaking and http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/CustomWPS), as well as the manual.
Also, it will be appreciated by people trying to port your theme to other targets if your code is organzed so that it's easy to read it.
Luckily, you don't have to make a port for every player that Rockbox supports - that's the spirit of Rockbox: people do what they want and are kind enough to share it with the rest of us.

Lastly, I would suggest looking into some existing themes to see the structure and maybe tweak them to see for yourself how it works.

Good luck!   :)

Get the simulator for your platform it will save you HOURS - they are just wonderful, and can be used for debugging.
