Sansa e200 Video-out
« on: October 03, 2007, 01:59:02 AM »
I read that the chip used by the sansa e200 supports a video-out feature so you could potentially watch your videos on a tv or something, is it possible for rockbox to implement this or are there other hardware components missing that are necessary for this to be possible?

You would need physical hardware to create an Svideo/composite signal.

i thought it might be possible to do it through the head-phone jack (granted i don't know much about how rockbox works) since they use the same signals as composite does.

The headphone jack uses "the same signals as composite does"?  Sorry, no.

then why is it that the same plugs can be used to transfer video to other devices?  i have a TV tuner for my GBA that uses a single standard headphone jack to import audio and video?  if i plug in a Y cable (two composite on one end, headphone on other) and plug in a video cable to one connector and an audio cable to the other connector it works?  why can it output video and audio using the same standard headphone jack?

Leaving aside any connection issues, how do you propose to create the video signal to output over whatever jack?  You need the correct hardware in the player to create the video signal.  How you get that signal out of the player is a secondary issue.  We cannot use an audio chip to create a video signal.

Saratoga has already told you this in the very first reply:

i think i mis-interpreted the first post, my apologies.  i'm trying to find the original specifications where i read that the pp5024 chip was capable of producing video-out signals, but the pdf link is down right now.  when i find it i'll post it.
