Rockbox Inferno (Was: Feedback on a work in progress [Rockbox Theme])
« on: September 29, 2007, 09:55:42 PM »
My first theme, Rockbox Inferno.  Designed for the iPod Video (using EvilG's build, but I'm not entirely certain that it's necessary.)

that looks great! however, if you want it to look exactly like that, you'll need a patched build for multifont patch. on a side note, can you pleeeease do a nano port?

Thanks. :)

Right now I'm using EvilG's latest build, but if I need to compile my own to get that patch in there, then that's what I'll do.

I can see about a Nano port, but I get to code for mine first. :D

Looks awesome. Album art would work wonderfully with this theme as well (right beside the main three fields).

Thanks. :)  I'm glad I've gotten some positive feedback.  I'm actually coding it right now.

I'd implement album art, but I use embedded album art, which there's no support for (that I know of), so it's useless to me.  Maybe I'll do a version w/ album art in the future for those of you that do use it.

Well, coded and live!  The simulator is having issues, so you get actual pictures.  Not /exactly/ what I had in the mockup, but it's pretty close, and doesn't require me to do any custom builds.  I still need to add some indicators for shuffle and repeat, as well as playback status (playing/paused/stopped).  But, there it is.

Thanks, everybody!  It's great to hear such positive feedback from my first theme.  I used Rockbox for the first time YEARS ago when the Archos Jukebox was the hot new thing, and I never imagined that this project would become so elaborate.  I'm really glad to be a part of it.

I'm still trying to make a final decision on a font HERE.  I think a friend of mine has a Nano that I could possibly borrow for a little while, and see how things work out for it.

I also just noticed that there's a competition for a new default rockbox theme.  Maybe I'll submit this to it.  Though, it DOES mean a lot of porting.  Thoughts on that idea?

Once it's done, I sure will.  A little bit more tweaking left and I'll get a version up for ya'll.  I promise I'll put it up tonight.

Alright, as promised, here's a release.  It's definitely an alpha release.  There are a few things that I want to update.  I'm not really happy with the status indicators right now, so I'll be updating those.  Also, the margins patch behaves oddly, so any long names will flow over their graphical bounding box since I'm not using it.  But, those aside, it works!

I'll always update the first post with the latest version, so that's where you should go now to download it.  And then tell me what you think. :)

As per the guidelines, we ask that you put  themes in the proper page, rather than announcing them on the forums and hosting them offsite, so that everyone can find their themes via a more centralized index.
