Battery wasting

<< < (4/4)

GodEater:
AFAIK no-one has written to nVidia since they bought PP - the only emails I know we've sent were sent directly to PP when they were a standalone firm - and they completely ignored them.

LambdaCalculus:
Although, like saratoga pointed out, nVidia may, at this point, not care what people do with the PortalPlayer chips, since they're discontinued.

Although the question now may be: what is nVidia's stance on the F/OSS community? Will they be friendly towards hobbyists who want to work with discontinued hardware and start releasing datasheets for the PP chips, or will they be right bastards about it and tell us to go bugger off?

Getting PP documents would help us immensely, since that could potentially open the doors for more PP-based DAPs to join the Rockbox family... if anyone's got the interest and hardware, of course.  :)

Where do you get the idea they're discontinued? nVidia's website is still advertising the PP5204.

Just write to them and see. I suspect you won't even get told to bugger off though. You'll just be left wondering if your email was even delivered.

And it's the only PP chip being advertised. Also forgot to check nVidia's site... thanks for pointing that out, GodEater.

They may not be released to the community unless they have orders signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public enquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters.  ;)

Thank you Mr. Adams :)
