General Ignorance: Bass distortion On Certain Rips

I am getting bass distortion when ripping certain CD's. EG Bruce Springsteen Devils & Dust.
Sounds like old-fashioned over-recording.
Have tried OGG, MP3 & FLAC but results are the same. Also tried different ripping programmes. This is NOT a player-related problem as you can hear the distortion when play the file on my computer.

I am very ignorant........could it be some form of encryption to prevent copying? Seems strange that 90% of CDs sound fine, but a few rogues are impossible.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

If it doesn't have anything to do with the player, then what is it doing on these forums?
