Ipod 5.5g Harddrive Upgrade + Rockbox

Has anyone upgraded a 5.5g to a hd that has 100+ gb (2.5" + large backplate) and then installed rockbox with no problems? Im thinking of an upgrade but am afraid that rockbox wouldnt work on it. Im specifically thinking of

a 2.5" drive won't fit no matter how big the back plate is.

aaahh sorry, was looking at rapidrepair.com and I thought that the 120gb hd replacement they had was a 2.5" drive.
