Why are you trying "Open with..." ? on it?

Just one short click on it should be enough to start the MpegPlayer Plugin.

Also - you just double posted - which is also a violation of the forum guidelines. Could you perhaps go read them again please ?

If you look inside the .rockbox folder on your ipod, do you see a folder called "viewers" ?  If so, do you see a file called "mpegplayer.rock" inside that viewers folder?

this was intended to demonstrate the useness factor of your initial post. You left out almost any information that is required to give you good assistance.

- What build are you using?
- What version have you installed? (check the file /.rockbox/rockbox-info.txt)
- What file type do you want to play (you told that in the meantime but that was missing at first)

and a couple of other questions has been asked in-between.
