sansa e200 radio... is it possible to transmit rather than receive?
« on: September 23, 2007, 06:06:55 PM »
hmmm, lately Ive been pondering... my friend has gotten a thing that broadcasts his ipods music so he can listen to it in the car. Well, sansa can receive radio waves but is it possible for it to broadcast rather than receive so I can listen to my tunes in my car (thats right, new driver on the road  ;D ) without buying anything or any wires.
thanks for your time.

They are two different processes. Buy a belkin FM transmitter at walmart for $15 and that solves your problem.

if you're gonna use one of them battery-powered FM transmitters, i've found that you get the best results if you also plug in the sansa USB cable (doesn't need to be plugged into a computer or anything, just the sansa).

Hmmm-
This might mean the USB cable is acting like an antenna, I wonder does it improve the FM reception on the Sansa?
(just got mine a few days ago, still playing around with it..)

They may just use ground as the antenna.

Is there any way to modify the FM tuner inside your Sansa to (1) receive AM and/or (2) transmit AM and/or FM?

Also, why don't most MP3 players handle AM and FM?

For (2), the answer is still "no."

(1 is also "no")

AM antennas need to be quite large due to the low frequency.

But many radio/clocks do AM. How does that work then?

Usually you'll find a long, long loop of wire running around the inside of the gadget many times.

What he said ^^

I bought a bookshelf stereo that came with an FM antenna (just a wire stripped on one end) and an AM antenna- which was a plastic loop about the size of a fist with wire wrapped around and around it- then it is connected by both ends to the stereo.

Radio frequencies are actually very dependent on antenna length- even the difference between FM 88 and FM 108 would be improved if you had the exact right antenna length, but they just use an 'average' length for your stereo..

And AM radio uses a totally different tuner than FM- stereos just have 2 tuners built in..
