Few problems with rockbox on Ipod 5.5 gen
« on: September 24, 2007, 06:23:18 AM »
I've had rockbox installed on my ipod 5.5 gen for the past week but i've been having a few problems.

1. With rockbox, my ipod has a lot of trouble being recognized when plugged into my computer's usb.  I have to restart or repeatedly replug the cable to get the ipod to recognize its plugged in.

2. File browser is rather slow.  I have it cached already but its still slow navigating.

3. When playing music, my rockbox will never leave the folder it is currently playing music from.  For example when playing from file browser, it will never leave the folder I put a cd in and go to another folder.  When playing from database > Artists > specific artist, it will not jump to another artist, only play random songs from that artist.

4. Playing a song from any "All files" section (ie. all artists in database or all files in file browser) results in very very slow read.  Rockbox pops up a message saying scanning the database "press play/pause to cancel" and goes through all my songs before finally playing the song I selected.  My Database is set to "load to ram" and my File Browser is cached.

5. Is there any way to enable scrolling so that if I scroll to the bottom it will go back to top and vice versa?

1) Does it seem to work properly when plugged in to another computer or using another cable?  USB connectivity isn't really a Rockbox issue at the moment since all the code does is detect a connection and then reboot into Apple's Disk Mode.

2) Can you be more specific?  How is it slow?  Scrolling, entering new folders, opening files, etc.

3) What is "Auto-Change Directory" set to in the playback settings menu?  If set to "Yes" it will advance to the next folder in the file tree and proceed to play files there.  If set to "Random" it will select a random folder from a list generated when you run the Random Folder Advance Config plugin.  If you select a specific artist from the database then a particular playlist is generated.  Since you are not playing a directory from the file tree the settings for Auto-Change Directory do not affect this behavior.

4) I'm not sure about this.  Just how slow is it?

5) This should already be the behavior.  Scrolling will stop when you reach the bottom of a list.  Try scrolling again once you reach the end of the list and it should wrap to the top of the list.
