iPod Nano RIP...Long Live Whatever
(1/1)
roscoetuff:
My Nano died the other day. Given inquiries to Apple when my son's Ipod drive died, looks like replacement costs are lower and quicker than repair. Have run Rockbox from my Ubuntu for some time happily. Now that Amarok has Rockbox support.... and I'm working on VMware to run iTunes and get access to the iTunes store.... I don't really care about the MP3 player brand/model etc.
Appreciate any suggestions and guidance for those more "in-the-know" as to what MP3 player to go for. My Nano had 4G's... and it would be nice to up that number without breaking the bank.
Thanks!

If you want a flash player, the only choices are a 1st gen Nano (2nd gen does not work) or a Sansa E200 series. I'd pick the Sansa purely through a feature comparison, but I haven't used either.

I also suggest a Sansa; you can now get a Sansa e280 from Amazon for about $113 USD, plus free shipping. Now that we have MicroSDHC support (which the OF doesn't!), you may be able to (in theory) bump that capacity up from 8GB to 40GB, if we ever see 32GB MicroSDHC cards!

Thanks! Ordered a Sansa e280. We'll see what happens. Thanks again.
