In games section in patches, .diff and .c files?
« on: September 16, 2007, 01:22:34 PM »
So, I went to the patches section in the tracker and i advanced searched for the "games". i got a whole bunch of games and assosicated things. I wamt those games just for beta testing before they are added to the daily builds. I see .diff and .c files, what are those? How can I get them into the needed .rock executable?

here are some examples: Atari 2600 emulator

http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/6048

i downloaded the tar.bz2 and extracted it, has a whole bunch of .c files, what do I do?

also, go to http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7718?pagenum=2 , it includes a .rock file, but I can't download it because the save file as option doesn't work and if i click on it, it simply shows me garbled code!

can someone help me out?

You have to apply .diff & .patch files to the source. They show what needs to be modified in the source. For plugin .c files, you need to copy them to apps/plugins folder in the source, and add the corresponding entries to SOURCES and CATEGORIES files in the plugins folder. If there is multiple .c files, somewhere in the patch on the tracker should tell you what to do with them. After you did the above said operations, you will need to compile to get the .rock file (and the rest of rockbox). If you want an easy way out by just copying the plugins onto your DAP, there is no easy way.

sorry, forgot to ask my second question!
here goes: at http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7718?pagenum=2 , there is a precompiled .rock file. i try to download it, but it goes straight to the wierd code display in my browser. i've tried to right click and download it, but alas, that doesn't work either. what should i do?

Its a problem with your browser.  Use a different web browser, wget, or some other utility to download it.

You could also try right clicking on the link and selecting "Save As" or equivalent. Be aware though that .rock files don't stay compatible with Rockbox builds forever. It's likely that the plugin won't work.

Rockbox build and plugins (i.e. the rock files) need to match. If there are changes to the plugin API (which happens from time to time) the binary gets incompatible. Also, the plugin needs to be compiled for your specific player -- a plugin for the sansa won't run on the Ipods etc.
