scrolling issues on iPod

Can you put the iPod in Disk Mode?  There are instructions for doing this in the installation chapter of the manual and in countless threads here.

Nope...that leads back to the original problem of the busted scroll wheel.

Anyone know of a place to buy a replacement scroll wheel? I figure its cheaper than a new Ipod. I cant afford a new Ipod..hah

Are you saying that the button click parts of the scroll wheel are not functioning, and that is what is preventing you from putting it into Disk Mode? Because if so - then you're really out of luck - they're not actually part of the wheel, they're on the main board underneath - and getting a new one of those will be very tricky indeed.

Oh...ya thats what I am saying. I have not pulled it apart so I didn't know it was onboard. Eeek. Looks like I am out of luck. I shouldn't have messed with it cause now I cant even use it as a external HD. Maybe I should try and buy a 60GB ipod with a broke screen/battery/HD and try and mix and match? I am pretty handy with electronics but I don't think I will be able to solder on the tiny MOBO.

Ok i just pulled it apart and I see what you are saying. Totally different than what I thought it was going to look like in regards to the scroll wheel functionalities.

It seems I am S.O.L when it comes to fixing this one with simple software functions.

oh well.
