Rockbox is Sweet
(1/1)
aabond:
Hi Everyone!!!
I'm new to the forum and wanted to say that I'm quite impressed with what RockBox has to offer. I love the ability to just be able to copy mp3 files over to my ipod without dealing with itunes. Also love the way I can customize my while playing screen.
Now to my question.
I've been reading that RockBox was in part built from ipodlinux or podzilla. Since these are linux derivatives, I was wondering what it would take in order to interpret inputs from external accessories such as my ice-link in my car where I can control the tracks with my steering wheel. I know I've played with reading inputs from a linux terminal and mapping those inputs with certain functions. It seems to me there should be a way for rockbox to accept commands from remote inputs.
What do you all think???
Thanks again,
Andrew
GodEater:
Rockbox was never written in any part from ipodlinux or podzilla. We *did* take the hard work that the iPL guys had done on figuring out the hardware and use it to write the iPod port - but that's it - there's no shared code.
As to external accessories, it all depends on a number of things :
a) If you have a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Gen Ipod. This is the only set of iPods that we know the serial hardware for.
b) Someone writing a serial driver using that information
c) Someone then writing an Apple Accessories Protocol to use that serial driver.
d) Someone then writing plugins(?) for Rockbox to drive particular accessories.
So far no-one has done b, c, or d.
