ok so i have a few videos that are mp4 and avi that dont work, is there a way to get them to work or do i have to convert them? if its the 2nd please tell me how

You need to convert the videos to mpeg2 as this is the only supported format. See http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/PluginMpegplayer
