When the "safe" method of putting rockbox on a Sansa e250R is developed, will i have to delete all my music from the player before I install it?

Also, i would like to know if anyone has a release date for this "safe method" of rockbox for the e250R. Currently, the method with Linux scares me, even if my Sansa has a 2 year warranty.

Thank you for you time.

This isn't really an installation question; more of a general topic. Please make a note of this.

The "safe" method for installation will be announced on the front page of the site and (quite possibly) the mailing list when it's ready.

You don't have to dump your music from your Sansa to use Rockbox. You can keep the music on it, and just build a database or navigate through it with the file browser. The manual explains this.

The only music that will not work is anything bought from Rhapsody, since Rockbox does not (and never, ever will) support DRM.

Rockbox supports dual booting, so you can still boot into the Sansa firmware if you need it for whatever reason.

I have one more question, will installing rockbox for sansa e200R, with rockboy, and themes and plugins, involve more than just unzipping files??

If it does can someone tell me what?

No, all it takes is just unzipping files and making sure they extract to the right locations. I would recommend an app like 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org) to extract the files.

I think he means the full install process, which requires a bit more than that (special tools) as described in the thread for installing on e200R

Then if that's the case, then he'll have to do like everyone else and wait until a simplified tool is ready for use.

When the simplified process is released, will I still only need to unzip? Or will i need other tools?

You will still need another tool, but it will probably just be one program, run once.

If i was to make a mistake in the "simplified" process, would I be able to fix it through my computer or recovery mode?

Or is their any chance the player would be rendered useless in any situation?

I am curious because you claimed that the present process of installing rockbox on the e250R was not for the "light hearted", like me.

Both processes will require manufacturing mode, and the method for repairing your player should the worst happen is essentially identical to the current installation process.

But to make a mistake in the simplified process, it's very likely you'd have to unplug your player in the middle of the transfer of data to it.

Sorry, i may not refer to it in the same way, but what exactly do you mean by "manufacturing mode". I'm assuming it means recovery mode.

No, it means Manufacturing Mode. Recovery mode is a different mode. Please see the actual install instructions...

And please, if you are going to try the install, don't assume anything.  That way lies future, "My player doesn't work" posts.
