Done right?

I just purchased a used F40  because I was told it can run Rockbox which is a superior product to most default mp3 player programs.

The F40 has no music or pictures on it.
I followed the installation instructions found here: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatFXPort

The only deviation from the instructions was that my computer would not let me eject/disconnect the USB device, so I just unplugged the F40. (error was "The Device 'Generic Volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later"

I have successfully booted in Rockbox, set the time and even installed a theme.

My question is, looking at this screenshot, does it appear that I did everything correctly?




If so then I need to ask the really dumb question of, "How do I get started loading music?"

I read the manual, and it didnt seem to address loading up. I looked around and didnt find a folder that struck me as being the place to go.
I'm not computer savvy, but I'd like to think I'm not a complete dummy, yet I feel like one right now

Please set me straight.

Assuming you also followed the instructions properly changing the bootloader, you're probably fine.  To load music, simply make a directory on your player (called whatever you like.  many use "music") and just copy the files over.

Thank you much for the reply. I guess I just overthought it, and forgot that, in essence, all the F40 is really just a hard drive.

I'm not being pedantic, I'm really not when I tell you that is not an error message that is a warning message.
A warning NOT to do what you did.
That warning message is telling you that Windows does not believe it (or another program) is finished writing to the device in question and the last thing you should do is yank the plug.

Agreed, just try again if you get that error. I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, but it seems that rockboxed gigabeats need two tries to safely remove them. You cant seriously screw up a hard drive or filesystem by pulling the plug without stopping it first. I know from experience.

Did you mean *can*?

I usually have to tell it to eject twice too.
