How to apply the Album Art Patch...?

(1/1)

Sup3rkirby:
I found the patch for displaying album art on the WPS(FS#3045), and like all good users I read the wiki to see what I need to do with this patch(http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WorkingWithPatches).

Then, following the links I went to http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/patch.htm and installed the 'program'.  Well....  It would seem that applying a patch requires you to type some simple commands in the command prompt(since the instructions give you commands to type).

Maybe I've been reading something wrong, or just don't understand this, but it isn't working for me.

--- Code: ---  cd to/source/root
  patch < patchfile

--- End code ---

I'm not really even 100% sure what the '/source/root' directory is.  I've been trying to set it to the root directory of my rockbox firmware(on my sansa e260).  The problem is the command prompt won't let me change the directory to the correct drive(K:\).

So, what am I supposed to be doing.  I obviously can't be doing something right.

You actually need to set up a Cygwin build environment (or use the VMWare image provided).  Read up: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SimpleGuideToCompiling

Please note that the proper forum for this type of question is "Getting Started and Compiling"

Febs:
It sounds like you're trying to run these commands in Windows, when in fact you need to set up a Linux development environment.  This page provides additional information:

GodEater:
Looks like we should remove those links to the windows versions of patch and diff - they're not much use without a build environment.
