e200tool: Failed to claim the interface (-1, Operation not permitted)
« on: September 12, 2007, 02:49:21 AM »
So I was going to install RockBox on my e280r.

I was trying to do the bootloader patching per

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...loaderPatching

I got the player in manufacturing mode, but had a problem running the e200 tool:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~/sansa$ ./e200tool recover BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom
e200tool v0.2.3-alpha (c) by MrH 2006, 2007
Searching for device 0781:0720 ... found!
Failed to claim the interface (-1, Operation not permitted)
Searching for device 0b70:0003 ... 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 not found!

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
Jason

thanks...I'm a bit of a linux looser

Another question:  Will putting RockBox on my e280r remove the Rhapsody features of the player?  When I boot into the sansa firmware, will I still have my Rhapsody Channels?

Thanks!

Just as long as you keep your files, it should be fine. Anyway, don't bother using the rhapsody channels if you have the MP3s(unless your already paying for your subscription.)

I'm not sure I understand your reply, David.  As long as I keep which files?

Rhapsody Channels are the bomb.  They are the reason I bought my e280r.  I want to dual boot Rockbox, but I am not willing to do it if I will loose the Channels functionality.

DavidGWRawson:  Please refrain from telling people Rapsody is pointless when they ask about it.  You may not like it (me neither actually), but for many E200R owners it is why they bought an R series and unless we can dual boot properly Rockbox may not go too far on the R.  Also, please stop giving advice when you don't know what you are talking about.

mrknowitall:  A proper dual boot should leave the original firmware exactly as it was, Rhapsody support and all, but I don't know if anyone has actually tried it.  As such, I don't think anyone will guarantee it!  Note that this is what I think - there are others on these boards with a more intimate knowledge of Sansa affairs than I.  Have you read this thread?

Yeah, thanks for the link.  I' understand now.  In theory, you can dual boot into the rhapsody firmware, but in reality most people, at this point, who are dual booting an e220r are using the vanilla e200 firmware.

I plan to hold off for a while and see how things develop.  Or at least get a good understanding of what I need to do to restore my e200R to its original state should the dual boot not turn out as I hope...
