Sansa e200r battery problems.
« on: September 11, 2007, 07:06:45 PM »
It seems that rockbox drains the battery 4 times faster than the original firmare. The battery is supposed to last at least 20 hours, but it only lasts five hours, fully charged. I'm guessing that since rockbox uses more CPU power, it also uses more battery. Are there any settings that can be changed to help?

That's not a surprise, considering that nearly all of the PortalPlayer targets have pretty bad battery life compared to the original firmware. This is something that has to be worked on.

The only PP targets that get off lucky are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen iPods.

Power consumption was optimized on the PP5002 targets.

I wouldn't simply call it "optimized", as there are things in the way that we don't know about it yet. Optimization sounds more like it's simply a matter of someone sitting down and doing it, but this really requires someone to discover important things about how the hardware works, first.

How about "improved", for lack of a better term?

just because it says it will last 5 hours means nothing...  did a runtime test on my e200 (same hardware exactly so runtime should be almost identical) and ghot 15h 30min or so...

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
