Problem with Sansa e260 install
« on: September 11, 2007, 06:47:38 PM »
I wanted to try the RockBox firmware today.  I followed all the instructions and when I was running the sansa patcher, i got some error message durring the install and it had to close.  I then noticed that there were no files on my sansa(or windows said there weren't).

Then I had to take out the battery just to get my player off.  Simply unplugging it did nothing.  I even tried plugging it back in, but that just gave me error messages from windows because it can't recognize the device.

So once I get the battery out, I turn it on and RockBox booted up.  But something is wrong with my Sansa firmware.  When I plug in my player, it can not load the sansa firmware, therefore cannot be connected to my computer.

I followed the boot instructions even just trying to load the sansa firmware itself(holding left), but i get a message saying it can't load the file.

So of course I'm sure the sansa patcher screwed up the firmware, and I need a way to fix it.

I'll go ahead and ask that no flamers come to this thread and claim I did something wrong with my installation and this is my fault.  I followed the instructions and recieved an error.  The installation guide did not state what exactly to do with this error, so I unplugged my frozen sansa at this point.

To quote the guide
Quote
If all has gone well, you should see some information displayed about your e200 and a message asking you if you wish to install the Rockbox bootloader. Press i followed by ENTER, and sansapatcher will now install the bootloader. After a short time you should see the message “[INFO] Bootloader installed successfully.” Press ENTER again to exit sansapatcher.
This did not happen in my case.

Either way, the purpose of this next post is to type out the error I recieve when trying to boot the original firmware:
Code: [Select]
RockBox Boot Loader
Version: r12896-070323
Sandisk Sansa e200

Partition 0: 0x0B 3814 MB
Partition 1: 0x84 20 MB
Loading original firmware...
Trying firmware partition
BL mi4 size: E400
OF mi4 size: 587000
CRC32: F9CC3FE2
Model id: e200
Binary type: RBOF
Calculated CRC32: E46A06F6
Can't load from partition
Bad checksum
Trying /System/OF.mi4
Can't load /System/OF.mi4
File not found
Trying /System/OF.bin
Can't load /System/OF.bin
File not found

That is 100% exactly what is printed on my screen(took a while to type it all up).

So, any ideas as to how I can get the mi4 and bin files back without resetting everything?

Hey umm......  even out of a bit more curiosity(sp?), but where in the world can I get the sansa e260 firmware(mi4)? I tried seaching the internet, and with all the links I viewed, none of them actually had the firmware.  And I even found one link here in the forums(http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/mi4.html which is basically useless b/c the links there are down and it is the e200 firmware either way).

So since it looks like a factory reset is the only way, I'm just wondering where I can get the firmware so I can actually reset the thing.

Hmmm..  right.  The links are working now, and the firmware reset seemed to work.

It is refreshing the database right now, but since this seemed to work, looks like I'll be giving RockBox as many tries as it needs, since I can always fix my problems.

I'm really interesting in getting Doom on it, lol.  The things people do now days, it's crazy(Doom on an mp3 player).

I am glad it is working, but in future please do not double post as per the forum guidelines.

Cheers :)
