e280r: Several problems running rockbox
skrei:
I have installed rockbox on my brand new Sandisk Sansa e280r, and while the installation went just fine, I'm experiencing several problems when actually running it.
The first problem is regarding file transfer; the player simply won't show up in windows explorer when it's plugged in with the rockbox firmware running. I've tried plugging it to both my desktop computer, using Vista, and my laptop using XP, but to no avail. File transfer works fine using the sandisk firmware, when booted using the "hold left"-function.
The second problem is that several folders on the main partition are missing when viewing them from rockbox, i.e. the folder where all my music is stored. The weird thing is that the database manager in rockbox has no problems in finding the files and the metadata they hold. But the files and the folders they're in cannot be accessed.
Does anyone have a clue?

In the original firmware, do you have Settings → USB Mode set to "MSC"?

While in Windows, check to see if these folders are marked as "hidden."

I do, and the problem persists.

They were, so I changed it. Now, the folders are showing. Thanks for the tip.

This is true in my case too.

Well, the only reason I installed rockbox was so that my player could play FLAC-files. But since the OF (assuming this means 'original firmware') refuses to transfer FLAC (telling me the file format is unsupported, which is essentially true while using the OF), that reason is pretty much gone.
So, is there an alternative way to transfer FLAC to the e280r, or am I doomed to get another player, or wait for rockbox USB-support? BTW; thanks for making that clear, Gnostic.

Hi,
I have an e200 running RB for about 5 months now. I have had a similar problem. Solution: Turn on the e200 while hilding down the left arrow then it will boot to the original Sansa programing and compile a data base then plug in the the USB cord. It will now stay in the the original e200 programming and you and will be recognized by your PC. Drop and drag as you please.
