Videos?
« on: September 09, 2007, 01:23:05 AM »
I have searched the forums and discovered that you cant watch videos in rockbox. I am curious to know what is the best way to watch videos on an ipod video with rock box. Would it be to play it in its original firmware. How do the people with rockbox installed watch videos?
Thanks.

On the iPod Video, you should just boot into the original firmware and use the normal video functions. Rockbox can't use the special video chip (there's no documentation so we can't write proper support for it) so Rockbox's video support on that player is much slower.

well if you want to know how it is with mpegplayer then yes it is slow and choppy but I still use it simply because the conversion process is less tedious than going through itunes. mpegplayer is horrible if you plan to watch long movies but is decent for music videos or small clips

It works much better on nanos I can play some full-screen videos at double-speed(if I turn off speed limit) without skipping frames.

Also it plays long videos without problems, if they are converted right.

I recently bought a Sansa e260. I loaded Rockbox onto it but something strange happened. I tried loading different formats of videos onto it, and it doesn't seem to "see" these clips. If I look at the drives using my PC, I can see the videos, but not on the Sanaa unplugged from PC.
If I boot back into Sansa software, it does see some of the videos. Even though I used Sansa Media Converter, it doesn't seem to recognize many formats. Any one know what I am doing wrong? Thanks!

Rockbox plays MPEG, not MJPEG.  Check the PluginMpegplayer page in the wiki for methods to convert videos properly.
