Updated: rockbox nano 4gb 1st gen database problem
GodEater:
Run chkdsf /f again.
Re-initialise your database.
Shutdown your ipod.
Turn it on again, see if the Database is ok.
Then try and play a tune.

should i do the chkdsk, then restore, then reinstall rockbox to see what happens?

Hi Jpphun,
I am having exactly the same issue as you. I also managed to get to that stage last night, where the database initialised but playing a song gave me a fatal error. Does anyone know of an older build that will definetley work? Maybe we can try and find the problem, binary search?? :o

Ok,
I reformatted my ipod to factory settings using itunes. Reinstalled the rockbox bootloader, and installed the latest version of rockbox of my nano, r14741-070918. I booted it up and tried to intialise the database with no music on the ipod.
Unfortunatley it still doesnt work, the database hangs saying building database at 478 files. I can still go back to the main rockbox menu but the database building has just stopped. After a soft restart it still says database not ready.
Any ideas?

ok sorry to bump this topic but uhm i had the exact same problem, but i think it was because i reset the ipod(menu+center) when my database was initialised, so i tried holding play, and for some reason i had to initialise it again when i booted up so i did it and when i rebooted again, it was all there but then when i played a song, there were these weird background sounds(but you could still hear them clearly), and the song played just a wee bit too fast.. any reason for this? The rockbox.ipod file is still in the right place. I have no idea what that chkdsk or something stuff is so if i have to do that you'll have to explain i'm a noob in all of this stuff :)
Chronon:
chkdsk is a windows utility for checking (and repairing) the filesystem on a drive.
For those with problems, can you build a database containing 2 properly tagged files? (I'm actually not sure what normally happens when you try to build the database with 0 files on the player.)
Anyone posting in this thread please also provide which model of DAP you are using.
