But, anyways, I, for the life of me, cannot figure out how to compile e200tool in cygwin, could someone do it and post it along with libusb compiled in cygwin?

I doubt it'd work, since the libusb filter for Windows doesn't seem to like the Sansa's Manufacturing mode.

I know, I read that post, but just because someone 'doubts' it will work doesn't mean it won't. I think there is a way to get this working with the filter and device drivers and e200tool.

You should really get it compiling yourself if you want it.

I tried to compile it multiple times, but I just couldn't figure it out. Can't someone just compile and post an updated copy (the one on daniel.haxx.se is really outdated)?

Odds are very, very high that some programming will need to be done to get this working in Windows. If you can't compile, how were you planning to work on it?

I've removed the link to the windows binary package from my e200tool page since it just causes confusion to people.

If you want e200tool (or similar functionality) on windows, someone needs to step forward and help writing the usb code.

OK, would it be possible to use HDHacker (http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/) to read the sectors on the e200R's "hidden partition" and maybe write the modified BL and firmware without having to use e200tool?

Probably not. This program is just to read drives. In manufacturing mode, sansa is not found as a drive. Therefore, the program will not find the sansa. (I believe, but you can go ahead and try.) I only tested it for five minutes. I'm pretty sure it won't work though...

No, the second partition is hidden and in fact (as far as we know) completely inaccessible using USB in firmware/recovery mode so there's no way to do the install without using the manufacture mode.

Well, when you compiled the Windows binary in cygwin, did you do the things listed at http://libusb-win32.sourceforge.net/#development? It says to include the supplied usb.h, link against the library, do NOT include the dll with the program, and to remove usb_busses and use usb_get_busses() instead.
Plus, maybe when using the Windows binary, the user needs to install the filer drivers, and use a device driver that works for the Sansa in manufacturing mode (just use the libusb-win32 device driver and modify it for manufacturing mode).

I'm not sure who the "you" is you refer to, but I have no idea how that windows binary was built. Feel free to build a new one and test!

Yea. And libusb destroyed my windows computer. I had to reinstall every single driver to every single device, after restarting my computer with libusb installed. I had to do it MANUALLY. So, just stick with the linux method.

Yea. And libusb destroyed my windows computer.
This is somewhat OT, but: windows xp has an automatic rollback feature which helps you if you have a broken driver in the system. Saved me from a reinstall once. This is even a default feature, you don't need to enable it.
(Besides, we can't stick to the linux install forever -- at some point we will need an easy windows installer, and as far as I can see this will require libusb)

OK, I compiled e200tool in cygwin and then ran it, and it still didn't work. So, two things:

1. If anyone (and I mean anyone) has gotten the Windows binary to work, we need to know EXACTLY how you did it.

2. Is there a way to compile the original libusb library in cygwin, and, if so, how?

1.  Good luck finding anyone because as far as we know, no-one has got it working on Windows.

2.  Not that I know of, since Windows handles USB differently than Linux.
