Database build hanging on iPod 60gb Video

(1/1)

whitney:
Hello,

I installed rockbox for the first time yesterday. Everything seemed to go ok, but my database did not reflect the music that was on the iPod. So today, I removed rockbox successfully, used iTunes to restore the iPod to factory settings and then reinstalled rockbox. Now, it seems to be hanging while rebuilding the database. It says it has found 442 items (not sure why because there is no music on the iPod currently) and then it just sits there. It has been in that state for over a half an hour.

I am using today's build (r14631)

Thanks,
Whitney

Hi!
I have the same problem on a 60GB Ipod Photo.

I tried building the database and left my iPod for 36 hours+ and it was still counting so instead I emptied my iPod completely.
After that installed the current build from this site.

Now when I try to initialize my database it stops at 616 found and nothing more happens.

What should I do to get the database to work? As I said there is nothing on the iPod at the moment since I restored it to fabric settings...

Thanks!
/Henrik

*edit* I'm using rbutilqt-v1.0.4, (r16594-080309)

Try to see if a certain music file (due to being corrupt, having large embedded album art, etc.) is jamming the creation of the database.

You do this through binary testing.
[li]Divide your music into two sets "A" and "B".[/li]
[li]Remove set B from your player.[/li]
[li]Attempt to build the database.[/li]
If the database does not build successfully you know the problem lies in set A.
If the database builds successfully you know the problem lies in set B.
Now that you have narrowed the problem down to half your collection, divide the non-working set in two and start over.

Hopefully you see where this is going.
