Problems with Sansa e260r NEED HELP!
« Reply #30 on: September 07, 2007, 06:39:34 PM »
I have a question that's a little out of the subject, but since I restored my sansa, can I just skip the bootloader patching step? Im going to try to install rockbox again and ensure I read every instruction. If it doesn't work this time, I'll just restore it again and leave it as is for a while. I think this is probably the end of this forum for now....also, how can I help development of rockbox? I'd like to help out! another question about installation, do I put the .rockbox folder, or the contents only into the device?

this may be double posting, but how do you delete this forum?

There is no "may be" about it. You've showed you know how to use the edit function, why didn't you use it? The rules are rather clear, and to be very honest, I'm getting tired of seeing others remind you of them and having to remind you of them myself.

As well, do you mean "Delete this thread?" It contains useful information for those who may also do similar things, so deleting it wouldn't really be beneficial.

Since you clearly failed to read and follow the instructions the last time, I hardly think it is advisable that you try to skip over anything. I would recommend that you start over from start and that you are very careful about following every single word in the install procedure.

About the development part, that's better suited in a different thread and has in fact already been discussed numerous times so try searching around a bit.

If it doesn't say it in the instruction, why do you think you're supposed to do it?

Are you sure it didn't say it couldn't find rockbox.e200?

Where, exactly, is your .rockbox folder?

Just to clarify, what exactly do you mean by "root directory"?

OK, here is what I did!!! I formatted my player, allowed it to replace default files and folders, re-attached it, put .rockbox on it, copied .rockbox and renamed it rockbox.e200, now it runs! So I did have to rename .rockbox folder to rockbox.e200! Thank you all! (this thread looks as though it contains everything on installing rockbox on e200r! it could be useful for other people!!) Now, however, I no longer need to be on the Installation/removal forum. Time to go on other forums...

No! You don't have to rename the .rockbox folder! Please don't give such wrong advice openly here, it could get people into trouble!

The installation instructions clearly state that
Quote
... the entire contents of the .zip file should be extracted directly to the root of your player’s drive. Do not try to create a separate directory or folder on your player for the Rockbox files! The .zip file already contains the internal directory structure that Rockbox needs.

Note: If the contents of the .zip file are extracted correctly, you will have a folder called /.rockbox, which contains all the files needed by Rockbox, in the main folder of your player’s drive.
There are no additional steps of renaming something mentioned because you shouldn't (I'm surprised that it works for you at all). This can really cause you trouble and to the least major, unnecessary inconvenience when upgrading.

*rambles about Firefox showing four misspelled words (excluding "Rockbox", "im", "didnt", "DavidGWRawson", and "pixelma")*

it works with .rockbox directory only.
That directory isn't supposed to be modified.  Of course it only boots from there - the bootloader is coded to only boot from there (unless you use a modified one - a binary patched one does not count as modified in this case.)

Why did you think the other one would work, if the directory wasn't .rockbox?
