Problem with music playback on video ipod
« on: September 06, 2007, 12:49:51 AM »
I got a new iPod and loaded Rockbox onto it.  I tested it with some music files before loading Rockbox using iTunes (what an awful program BTW).  Anyway, the Rockbox install went flawlessly.  Everything seems to be installed correctly.  I can start apps, play games, etc. but it won't play any music.  These are the exact same files that I downloaded to the ipod using iTunes.  The files also play in Winamp on the PC so they are fine.  The "now playing" shows the file but it looks like it's always at the end of the file, showing a "-" in front of the play time.  The files are just mp3 files with a bit rates of 128 or 320 (I tried some files of each BR).  The tag information appears to be correctly displayed.  I have tried any flac or ogg files yet.

Firmware version: r14615M-070905
The Bootloader was downloaded and installed yesterday, so it's pretty recent.

Anybody have any idea as to what I should try to get this work?

Please download the official version from build.rockbox.org and try that.

A couple of other things.  It does the same thing from either selecting a file or from a playlist.  The only difference is that when it from the mp3 file selection itself, no tag information is shown in the now playing screen.

OK so I now have firmware version r14625-070906.  I reset the settings but the same thing is happening.  I don't know how I got that other version.  I think it came from the same place.

Other ideas?

Can you check with WinAMP what the exact format of such non-playable file is? Just right-click in the playlist window and select "file info" (or hit ALT-3).

I found that it is because itunes whenever you buy a song it puts it into a AAC locked format, really weird protected format which is like a a so you can't put it on there unless you get a converter that will get rid of it or you just burn a cd and then delete what got burned then just upload that but I would like to find a more convenient way to do it myself.  because I just got this yesterday and this is driving me crazy.

1.  He said that these files play in WinAmp on the PC, so it is not an issue of the files being protected by Apple's DRM.

2.  Please don't top post in our forums.  If you are going to quote an earlier post, put your reply underneath the quote.
