rockbox sansa makes weird scratching sounds

auto123:
I love rockbox. Im a gamer and I like a mp3 that can do this stuff. I read rockbox is supposed to have better sound quality than the standard stuff. however when I play songs (usually only in hip-hop) I get this weird sounds that sound like a scratched CD. its really annoying with timbalands time (favorite song too T.T) because it not only has the scratchy sound loud but it also makes the sound of static.
is it too early in the sansa rockbox life to ask what maybe the cause of this or is there a fix?
most are WMA's might I add
thanks for your time, laptops low on battery
so rock on everyone

Remember that the WMA support is quite new.

I get the same effect in 1 of my 5 WMA files too (also all 128 kbps, the other play fine), so it seems to me that the file might be a bit corrupt and the codec makes it quite audible at the moment. In earlier stages of the codec development it wasn't this obvious - first I only heard a short glitch (I wasn't even sure what I heard), later that became the scratching noise and after the latest changes to the code, at the beginning of September, I also get the static a few seconds "around" the scratching noise.

Maybe you could help out by making a sample file available to the developer who worked on WMA support, mine is very bad quality overall (clipping). I'll point him to the thread if he hasn't already noticed.

I'm getting a similar effect as pixelma with my (relatively few) WMA files on my 5.5G iPod video. I'm still running SVN build r14530-070829 (yes, I will update ;)), but a test run with XMMS with appropriate libraries also reveals that it may have been Windows Media Player 10 that caused the effect. The WMAs in question were encoded at 160kbps, CBR.

Going over the forums, however, reveals that the "static" sound is caused when the Sansa accesses the flash storage, and I'm unsure if this has been fixed yet or not. Keep checking back for more information as it comes.

No this is something else here as I only hear the "static" (hard to describe in a different way) in the one faulty track around the scratching noises on my M5L, which doesn't produce audible noise during buffering. But that is only since the changes in revision 14571... ;)

LambdaCalculus:
I think we should continue to investigate this, because I remember reading reports of people having this issue with the Sansa e200's.

I know this may be a silly question to ask, pixelma, but my inquiring mind wants to know: Your Ondio doesn't make any static sounds during buffering, does it?
