Chip8 Games
« on: September 05, 2007, 10:20:17 AM »
How can I play  chip8 games with rockbox?  I put .ch8 files on it and opened them.  It had the game, but I couldn't do anything.  Is there something I'm missing?

EDIT -
I have an 80gb ipod video if that helps

Read the wiki page for more information:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginChip8

Depending on what device you're using, the controls may be severely limited. The Chip8 games originally used a hexadecimal keypad (0-9, A-F) for control, so some games may have to be tweaked so all required buttons are within the available buttons on your device.

No, they run perfectly fine. It's the control scheme that's really bad on the iPods.

Right, that's what I meant.  Do any actually have good controls?  I'd really like to have free games on my iPod, but it isn't really gonna work if the controls suck.

I heard about Rockboy.  I did some searches and found nothing.  Where can I get it, or is it  already installed like chip8?  I just put .gb games on my iPod?

I find that very hard to believe. I've just done a forum search for 'rockboy' and got 11 pages of results  :P

Like the Chip8 plugin, Rockboy works as a viewer, so all you need to do is copy a few Game Boy ROMs to a folder on your iPod, then navigate to it in the file viewer and select the game you want to play. Rockboy supports both .gb (Game Boy) and .gbc (Game Boy Color) ROMs.

But please remember that we do NOT support ROM requests, nor do we allow links to copyrighted material. You can search on Google for a cartridge reader/dumper, which you can hook to your PC and dump your own Game Boy ROMS from the cartridges.

And lastly, from personal experience, the controls for Rockboy are difficult to work with on the iPods, so I wouldn't recommend playing anything like high action games on the device. Something simple like Tetris or Alleyway works nicely, however.

Okay, but keep them to yourself. Like I said, linking to those sites here is a big "no no".
