Use this to install Rockbox instead:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/RockboxUtilityQt

If you have iTunes, make sure to enable Disk Mode on your iPod as well.

See my post above? Go into iTunes, and click on your iPod. Check the 'Enable Disk Use" box, and go back and try it again.

... and make sure to have administrator priviledges -- otherwise bootloader installation _will_ fail.

This might be irrelevant, but is your iPod formatted as FAT32?

It may or may not be the cause of the problem, but is worth checking as it is very relevant to Rockbox; the rockbox partition must be FAT32 formatted.

No denying that at all, BigBambi. I only mentioned it being irrelevant since he's using Windows, and hence must have a FAT32 formatted iPod already.

Have you tried using RBUtilQt? I gave you the link before. Look at my first reply.

Is your iPod named "removable disk"?  It kind of sounds like it's not mounting properly to me.  Have you tried it with the firmware USB mode as well as the emergency Disk Mode?  You might also restart your computer and see if that helps it to mount properly.
