Id3 tag issues.
« on: September 04, 2007, 10:54:57 PM »
( I really don't know where this should go, this seemed the best guess. )

I've had rockbox installed about a week or so, doing great, love it and all. Just I've found one plus that iTunes had over Rockbox. The id3 tags. ( I use an ipod video, 30 GB )

Anyways. I've been having issues where I'll want to play a track, and notice half my album is missing from my music folder ( root folder> music folder and .rockbox folder ). Yet if I go to files, there it is. If I click instead of say, Lateralus, I'll see my other files. Ok, no big deal. I download an id3 tag editor and change it to match. Orders fine on my computer and in files, but not in my database. So I take it as a rockbox problem ( hence why I posted here )

Any help? I guess it's not too big of a deal, go download another copy if your own copy is doing this...but still, gets annoying.

I have not had issues with Rockbox failing to read ID3 tags.  I have had issues with tags failing to get updated when I edit fields in iTunes.  I believe that in some cases iTunes modifies its iTunesDB rather than altering the ID3 tags.

A couple of questions:
What firmware revision are you using?  How long have you had this problem?  Did you update your database after altering the ID3 tags?

I'm using Evil G's Ice build, and I reformatted my ipod and then put rockbox on, music, etc. And yeah, I update everytime.

One of the forum rules is that you must be using an official build, or ask for help in the thread of the unsupported build that you are using. Please read the forum posting guidelines.

Ok, well it's not an unsupported build anymore. I'm running the current build. And still got the same problems...So any help? It's a few albums and not only just one artist's albums or any particular pattern ( for instance one album's fine, then another will only show up half of it's songs in the database, etc. )

I guess I could always just play things from the Files section, they're in order there, and from just checking now, they play in order and everything fine. Just hope it still makes the .scrobbler log. If there is a way to fix this though, please reply back though...Thanks

Are you using ID3v1 or ID3v2 tags?

Usually, both...I use an id3 tag editor and add in what's not there ( as it's usually albums that don't have tags that this happens to, so I add them ) and just add it to both sections. Both have the same information, and it's set for v1>v2 if that matters.

Now I'm just using the file system, which I'm liking better anyways as no updating needed and I sort it myself.

Try converting to v2 only. Someone else had a similar problem on IRC and it seemed to fix it.
