Belkin TuneBase FM
(1/1)
tatsudoshi:
Hello,
I have now tried to use the TuneBase with an Ipod Video and I am not able to change 'station'. I have to boot in Ipod Apple firmware, before I can set up the TuneBase. Are there any plans on getting RB to be apple 'radio' or what ever it is, compatible?
Thanks for an otherwise great piece of work! ;D
soap:
Are there plans? No, but there rarely are ever formal plans.
It is a lower priority item, though, as it only benefits one model out of the many Rockbox supported players.
Some, but not all needed, information is known on how to use the iPod serial communications for talking to accessories. So it is possible, but not likely in the near future. It won't happen until someone who really wants it decides to do it. (I know that is such a stock answer - but it is true.)
TexasRockbox:
I couldn't get the Kensington FM Radio & Transmitter to work with the ipod 5.5G at all -- regardless of how the ipod was booted.
The Apple FM tuner works as advertised (when booted into Apple mode) and does use RDS. RDS usage seems to be on the increase in the USA. Several Austin, TX stations use it now.
tatsudoshi:
Last things first ;D
TexasRB: I'm from Denmark and have never been outside europe so I wouldn't know how thing s are elsewhere. But stations here in DK have been using RDS for quite some time now and most european car radios have this capability.
I have now return the Belkin, as the signal was just not strong enough, so next time I am going to try kensington's RDS transmitter.
Soap: I am a software engineer myself, though somewhat fresh-out-of-the-box ::)
Anyway, I would very much like to try and see if I could help with the serial communication part of RB, since I actually need it it might as well be me. That said, I mostly work with php, JS, CSS, MySQL and other web-related codes but am familiar with Java and have three years of education in Java applications. So if any of this can help, please drop me a note.
AlexP:
tatsudoshi - any help shall be gratefully received. Rockbox is written in C, with small bits of assembly, so I'm afraid Java isn't terribly useful directly, other than as a route into C!
O/T I'm not sure how we got onto RDS, but RDS has been on all UK FM stations for as long as I can remember.
