A few problems with Ipod 5.5 80GB

I have installed rockbox on my 5.5 80GB Ipod. I used RB on am Iriver for a long time with no problems but I have a couple of odd problems with the ipod version. First it seems the Ipod automatically creates 4 folders called "calender, notes, contacts and IPOD_control" that I cant seem to get rid of. Is there anything I can do to remove these folders permenantly?

Secondly, when booting the original FW and connecting to my PC (im using ubuntu linux if that makes a difference) it shows the ipod with the correct amount of space used and remaining. When booting RB and connecting it shows the correct amount of space used but no space remaining. EG, when I boot the Ipod FW and connect to the pc my file manager (thunar) shows I have 46 gb of data with 27 gb remaining, if I boot RB then connect it shows 46GB used and 0 remaining. Any ideas?

Those four folders are used by the Apple firmware, so don't get rid of them. The iPod_Control folder is where the music you sync with iTunes (or whatever you use) goes, so don't throw that out.

This happens when you boot the Apple firmware. Just don't boot it ...

Rockbox reboots to Apple's disc mode for usb connection (as Rockbox doesn't have its own usb mode yet). If it displays strange values this is not Rockbox related and therefore nothing we can do anything about.

Rockbox has no USB mode, both times you're connecting using Apple's firmware. So write them a bug report.

As for the first question, any time you actually use the dual boot function Apple's firmware re-creates those folders, so there's nothing that can be done besides avoiding consciously booting the Apple firmware. You can get rid of them, but they'll come back each time.

I personally just leave them there, since they're not really in my way.

I know the only way they'll never come back is when Rockbox is a literal firmware replacement for the iPod devices.

It would be good if the Disk Tidy plugin could take care of them.

If that were the case, Disk Tidy would have to detect if there are files in the iPod_Control folder, since there are some people who still sync their iPods with iTunes, even after installing Rockbox.

Well that could be easily done I'd imagine but you could also just throw up a warning before the files are cleaned.

Or the user could just not boot the apple firmware unless they intend to use it (and if they intend to use it, they need these folders to exist).

And if they're using it to watch videos, as 90% of our iPod users are, disktidy will handily remove their entire video collection.
