Can't access music files (was: ok so just installed it)

read through the manual and what not. im having issues getting my music thats already detected to play. everytime i run the database initializer it just runs to like 389 found then goes blank and i have to reboot. i read the system info and it says the same itunes does 19 some odd gigs taken 8. something left but i cant access any of my music files. so how?

It sounds like you may have a broken file on your disk somewhere that the Rockbox database is tripping on.

Try attaching your iPod to your PC and checking the file system on it (chkdsk /f) from the command prompt, or right click on your ipod drive in explorer, choose "Properties", then click on the "Tools" tab, and click on "Check Now" in the Error-checking box.

ran chkdsk on it,
ran utility to uninstall
went in and deleted remaining wps folder and .rockbox folder
tried to uninstall bootloader - utility couldn't find it
finally just ran ipodpatcher to try and update existing
STILL got those darned 'data aborts'!

final 'fix' - going back to august build and then 'walking forward' to more recent official builds. seems to be working ok now.

I'd be more annoyed if a) I wasn't benefiting from the free labor of developers way smarter than me and b) I didn't secretly love noodling with this stuff for hours while putting the real world on hold.
