Is it possible to add extra codecs (more chip music)?
(1/1)
gamingjustin:
Hi all. New to the forums and new to RockBox in general so, a few questions: :)
First off I have to say I love how RockBox supports so many audio formats. I mainly decided to install it on my iPod because of the freedom it offered: .nsf, .spc, and .sid formats are a very welcome addition to my iPod.
Now, my question is: Can I add more formats (yes, I want MORE)? Are there any codecs for sega genesis music, turbo grafx-16 music, gameboy, etc? .mod, .xm? Maybe an updated .sid codec?
If anyone knows of any programs/apps/codecs that allow playback of these types of audio please let me know!
Thanks in advance everyone,
Justin

Features get added when someone interested starts coding it. If you're really so inclined, pick up a C book and the Rockbox source and get hacking!

I think gamingjustin is under the impression that there are third-party codecs available for Rockbox, in the same manner that you can download codecs for Windows Media Player.
All the supported codecs are already included in Rockbox. There are no additional available codecs that you can add. The only way to add more codecs to Rockbox, is to code them.

there is a patch on Flyspray to add an MOD-Codec, but you have to compile your own build.
