Data abort errors (merged)
« on: September 03, 2007, 11:25:15 PM »
Hi,

I just installed Rockbox on my 5th Gen 30gig Video, and when I go to the main menu, and click database (which im presuming is where my music is) I get a msg saying would you like to initialize the database?....I then click yes, and the database initializes saying it is finding media...and at about media piece 850, it aborts and i get an error messaging reading:

"Data abort at 0046298"

I did not push any buttons to get this or anything.
I have tryed to reinstall Rockbox but nothing happens?

Can someone please help me?! :)

Try downloading a current build from this morning (remember, Rockbox has a new build several times a day usually) and do this process again.

If it still fails - try checking your iPod's file system for errors. See this post for details on how : http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=12439.0

Also keep an eye on the exact build you are installing.

The 30GB Ipod Video needs the build that is labelled this way, people reported "data aborts" when accidentally installing the 60/80GB Ipod build. I don't know if that's the case here but it's always worth checking.

Good point - the 60/80GB build will NOT work on a 30GB iPod.

Hi,
I'm new here and getting the same error on all builds from 14552 to 14599.

My Pod freezes at 349 Files when initlialize DB and I have to reset it. But I don't get the error message.

But when I wan't to play an MP3 then it freezes with the error:

data abort at 0046298

I have tryed some older builds and the last one working ist 14530. But this one and older work just fine  ;D
The "EvilG-lite-Fusion-60-80G-20070525" build works also perfectly.

Details:
- iPod 5.5 Video with the latest Apple SW
- HDD has ben checked...NO ERRORS
- I have tryed all with standard installation settings

Cheers
Roland

And which ipod video build are you using?

The 30GB or the 60/80GB.

Is whichever one you're trying appropriate for your ipod ?

Data abort errors (merged)
« Reply #6 on: September 04, 2007, 02:31:11 PM »
Hi all,

I'm new to rockbox and therefore will probably be wearing out the carpet in this forum lol

I'm having a problem with the database, it reads 42 songs, then it stops and 'data abort at 00046298' is on the screen.

Anything I can do?

Thanks  :)

The first thing you have to do is tell us what device and SVN build you're using. None of us here are psychics... that I know of. :)

Go to System > Rockbox Info, and read the string of numbers that starts with an r.

Off topic, but that's pretty damn funny that it's stopping at 42 songs. :P

Back on topic, I might be wrong, but I think someone brought this up before. Have you tried to search around on the forums to see if someone else ran into this issue?

Yet another data abort error
« Reply #10 on: September 04, 2007, 03:40:45 PM »
Hi. I switched to Rockbox only about 3 days ago and the first installation went fine. I was able to do everything without any errors and I installed a couple of themes easily enough. Then I wanted to switch to one of the unsupported builds so I could use the album art patch (Build here). Since I couldn't be bothered finding out how to get all my artwork up and running (I gave up pretty easily  :P) I decided to switch back to the official build. This is when I started getting the data abort error when I was scanning my database. It happens around song 100 and the error code is '00046298'. I have searched the forums and a lot of people have suggested updating to the newest iPodPatcher, I am already using the newest version and am still getting this error.

I am using Rockbox version r14602-070904 which I am pretty sure is the newest version (I'm a bit of a newb on the rockbox site!). My iPod is the 30gb iPod Video.

Help? Anyone?  ???

edit: Sorry if I posted in the wrong section.

Your version is up to date as of the time of this writing.

iPodpatcher is only used to install and uninstall the bootloader; it is not the bootloader itself.

This issue you're talking about seems to be going around quite a bit, but we're uncertain if it's a bug that needs to be reported or not.

Im having the same problem, I have searched the forum and tried different things, and have even re-installed rockbox, but I'm getting the same data abort error.

I guess I'll just wait to see if anyone figures it out...? ???

It's been found out in IRC that this is a bug in some code that got committed yesterday - generally related to ID3 handling. Hopefully this will get fixed soon; until then you should be able to use a daily build from September 3rd.
