iPod Mini 2nd Gen help
« on: August 31, 2007, 05:22:14 AM »
HI, first of all i want to thank everybody who has helped to develope and support ROCKBOX .... IT really ROX     --> GREAT WORK

Thanks thanks thanks

I've installed rockbox 1 year ago and everything is fine. But reacently i bought a new pc and when i tried to plug my ipod to the usb i cannot access the the removable data carrier. A new drive appears in my explorer but the only thing which happens (after waiting 5 min) is that windows wants to format my ipod.

what happened, what have i done wrong, i didn't change anything on the ipod but i cant access it from my PC.

connecting it to the pc with the original firmware loaded didnt help
changing the USB energiesettings didnt help
trying other PC didnt help
the drive in the ipod is formatted for windows

What will happen when i press format, can i access the ipod afterwards - to install a new rockbox wouldnt be a problem

the ipodpatcher finds the ipod an tells me that i have a second generation ipod formatted with fat32

please help me, i have searched pretty much the last days but i found no hint which really helped me.

thanks kay

PS: I know this isnt the right place for this thread, but i didnt find a better place and i also know that rockbox is not affecting the connection with the PC but anyway i didnt find help in apple ipod forum so i hope you can help me

I forgot --> i use winXP

Have you tried using a different cable? As you seem to be unable to access it from a different PC too I suspect the cable being broken. You should also check if there is any USB hub between Ipod and PC. If so, try to connect the Ipod directly.

And what Ipod are you referring to? Rockbox supports the 2nd gen Ipod but only since a couple of weeks. As you wrote you installed it about a year ago this couldn't be the 2nd Gen -- are you referring to a Mini 2nd Gen?

oh sorry how stupid --> ipod MINI 2 gen 4GB

i dont think the cable is brocken, because windows recognizes the ipod and i can also charge the battery with the usb cable

my problem is, that im not sure what happens when i format the ipod. If i can format it and afterwards just reinstall the rockbox everything is fine and i try it.

But i need the ipod - without ipod i have no music when i am abroad!

ipodpatcher also finds the ipod!!!

Formatting the ipod from windows is easy enough. It's not necessary to erase the ipod software when you do this - just the "normal" partition that you can see as a drive letter should be enough to fix your problem.

Once you've done this - installing Rockbox again afterwards will indeed be possible.

PS - Post 1000!!! Woo!!! Four Figures!
