If you're running under Windows, then you may have to enable Hidden Fiew View, since the GBSYSTEM folder is hidden normally.

Open My Computer, then select Tools > Folder Options, then click the View tab in the config box that appears, and look for an option called "Hidden Files and Folders". Set it to show hidden files and folders, then click OK.

Go back to the manual and pick up where you left off. The "root folder", by the way, would be the first folder in the drive. For example, if your Gigabeat is assigned the drive letter G by Windows, then the root would be G:\, and from there you should have a .rockbox folder and the GBSYSTEM folder.

1) Finish reading the guidelines for the forums, you've missed some important ones like the "real words" one.
2) The manual doesn't mention a "root folder" it says the root of the device. That means "not in any folders." For example the root of your C drive is C:\. The GBSYSTEM folder is hidden, so you need to turn on the ability to see hidden and system files to find it (or type it in manually in the location/address bar).

Or if the instructions are too hard to follow, you could try this handy Rockbox Installer, brought to you by more of the lovely Rockbox Team.

A wee bit OT-ish, but I really should start making it a habit of directing people to rbutil if they're having trouble with the installation process. :)

With RBUtilQt rapidly approaching maturity - it'll probably start appearing in the manual soon as the official method of installation.

I only point people to the (now end of life) wxwidgets version if they're truly struggling.

Allowing it to have its final moments of fame in this wild and wacky world, eh GodEater? ;)

Honestly though, if we can get some more people to help us test RBUtilQt by pointing them to it, we can get a little feedback on what can be improved.

1)   Again, real words please.  plz is not a real word.

2)  Is it up continuously, or down continuously, or random.  Please say EXACTLY what is happening.

3)  Is it just the cross that is malfunctioning?  Do any of the side buttons do anything?

4)  I take it all buttons work as normal in the OF?

You don't happen to have a protective "skin" on your Gigabeat do you? I found this same problem when I fitted mine with one - it was so tight, the actual rubber of the skin was causing the cross to register key presses.

I assume the install has worked now has it? You didn't mention. Or say thank you grumble grumble
