How do I sync music? (was: newbie question - sorry)

for one with the gigabeat, plug it into a usb 1.0 port without the cradle and pull your music off the gigabeat ( that is if you do not have the original files without the .sat file extension ) that will get rid of the .sat encryption, then put rockbox on and you can drag and drop all your music onto your gigabeat just like windows explorer ( i.e. My computer ) without any encryption. For all of your Itunes music, just burn them onto a disc then re-rip them to your computer using windows media player. Then drag them to your gigabeat. That is the easiest it can be done.

I'm not sure what the original poster means with "itunes seed" - is that music that's been ripped using itunes or is it bought at the itunes store?

If it's the former one should be able to access the files and just copy them and maybe still use itunes to manage the music if desired (?), someone who knows this program should be able to tell.

If it's the latter, then Rockbox won't be able to play them, as been said before, and the forum guidelines permit discussing workarounds here...

I agree there, I hate iTunes' sync system. However, it should be possible to have some music player which syncs without messing up my beautifully organized folder system. Anyone know of apps which do this already? (I know Toucan for Windows, although not an audio player, can do fairly OK syncing, but I mostly use a Mac...)

EDIT: I see rsync has been mentioned...*sigh* guess I'll have to try that..

On a PC one can sync using Microsoft's SyncToy V2.0.  It's free.  Once set up properly it does a good job (in my opinion) of keeping files in sync.  Media Monkey does a good job of editing file tags but is sloooow in sync'ing.  SyncToy is fast and limited only by the USB rate of transfer.
