Nope...likely i'm mis-using the label. 'A' isn't the top edge button? That one has always worked as select, and 'hold' for power off.

At least i was right on the power connection, right?

The help/patience _is appreciated.

Going down (from the screen towards the cross) the right hand edge of the F series you have :

Power
Menu
Volume+
Volume-
A

On the top is the "Hold" switch, in between the power slot, and the headphones.

On the bottom is the battery switch.

 so I was kinda right bout the button too...expect i was totally wrong.

I've left it drain and will let you know what i find when i recharge.

Sorry - that was a hint for you to confirm which button you'd pushed - we're still not clear :)

Llorean:
To be honest, I can't think of any button on the unit that serves as "Select" and also allows power-down in Rockbox.
