Should my iPod video work on PC without the battery?

(1/1)

johnnyhaggis:
Under normal circumstances should an ipod video work when connected to a PC if the battery has been removed?

My iPod went for a swim in the toilet the other day, and upon inspection I found that the battery had a wire that was burnt, I can't tell if there's any damage to the motherboard (the screen works fine) and am hoping it's just the battery.  But before I start buyibng new batteries I need to know if it's worth doing - basically if I plug it in to the PC, I get the "extrememly low battery" icon.   It did the same thing with the fried battery installed.  The PC doesn't recognize it.

Is that normal behaviour for a batteryless ipod, or does that imply that the motherboard is damaged?

Most DAPs won't power up without a battery, even when they're connected to a power source.
Do you have access to any old ipod? Then you try swapping the batteries to see if the motherboard is damaged.

No I don't (or I'd have trie dthat already!) but thanks for the info - what I did is I bought a battery online, so when it shows up I'll find out and pos tthe results.  Hopefully the $12 for the battery will save me $300! Thanks.
