Toshiba MEGF20: Crushed headphone jack.
« on: August 28, 2007, 05:03:18 PM »
Greeting everyone.
Recently i've torn apart headphone jack from main board on my megf. For god's sake circuitry left untouched, except jack solder place - 3 of 4 of them detached with the socket, exception was ground contact.
Any help appreciated, especially would anyone mind checking connections between headphone jack and "diagnostic points" (or how i should interpret dp1~dp21 or so) so i can make a by-pass.

P.S. Got no guarantee for player, and no service-centres servicing toshiba in Moscow AFAIK. And sending player to Toshiba will be difficult.

Sincerely yours.

So i managed to fix it myself, if anyone wants i can post some photos later. So the goal changes :) : Now i need to find the remote pin (one which is used to detect headphone present and interact with RC) to restore full functionality.

This is where I usually say that it's best to always buy a few broken Gigabeats from eBay to keep as part donors. Since they're dirt cheap, buy yourself at least... let's see here... 2 busted Gigabeats that you can strip for parts.

*(Note: 2 is an optimal number to give yourself enough pieces to pick from.)

that's good advice, as I'll be switching from iPod Photo to Gigabeat F20 (or 40) soon. I'll keep that in mind and try to find a few broken units too. thanks!

Actually, with any DAP you buy, always get one broken unit for parts.

etien, if you ever need parts for your iPod (and don't mind spending a little green), then check these guys out; they have everything you can think of to repair your iPod:

http://www.ifixit.com

They even sell parts for modern Macs, but that's a story for another day...  ;)

thanks but my iPod works perfectly ! Good battery life (under original firmware), no HD problem, display's fine too.

It's just that I've discovered video on my DAP with RockBox, and when checking out the Mpeg Player page on the wiki I saw the Gigabeat has a screen just as big as the Video iPod and a frame rate at least four times that of any of the iPods. And that's ON TOP of having a battery life about twice (if not more) that of the iPod Photo/Video.
