cyboid, quake 1,2,3 and 4 ports if possible
Llorean:
Still, the only three players with "reasonable" video are the Gigabeat F and X, the iPod Nano I think. None of these players were designed for video playback except the iPod Video, and it has a chip we absolutely cannot use yet.
The Sansa and H300 had limited video support in their original firmwares but it was more a tacked on feature than anything else, and I believe on at least the Sansa we surpass that performance (or in some cases simply match it) anyway.

As per what Llorean had said, pink floyd, this is because the Broadcom chip the iPod video uses for video decoding and playback has no public documentation that we can pick up and study. This is why the iPod video port is going to be rather difficult to fully implement without some heavy wizardry and reverse engineering.
The MPEGplayer plugin is decoding everything in software at the moment, and because of certain factors, the iPod video port has pretty bad performance. Lack of full dual-core support on the PortalPlayer chip, large resolution, and lack of video hardware playback are all factors in this.
Seriously, do some research into what you're talking about first, before you come around saying this. It makes you look like an idiot and annoys us when you spout wild stories about what the hardware and software can do without any evidence to back them up.
Llorean:
Actually, just as a note, Mpegplayer is about the only thing effectively using the dual core support. ;)
The PortalPlayer chip is just not designed for video playback, it's just fast enough to do most of the music jobs "relatively well" and with the huge screen to drive, that just makes it worse.
LambdaCalculus:
Truly, Llorean, you are a gentleman and a scholar. ;)
Frankly, I truly never saw that Mpegplayer does make use of the dual core support. I know that some dual-core support is in the kernel, but I didn't really know how much.
So thank you once more for that little tidbit of information. And now I shall take that information, open my brain up, and place it in with all of the coding knowledge that I hold within that grey matter of mine!
Why do Rockbox (and other F/OSS projects) rule our worlds? Because you're learning something new each and every day! :)
ComposerDude:
Uh, actually, we learn something old every day. But then, you probably never watched Mister Rogers Neighborhood.
