Do you have an explicit license to redistribute those videos? Did the people who post them have an explicit license from the copyright holder?

Because we respect copyright here. The GPL and other licenses only work because of copyright law. And, to be simple: Those are the rules here.

I've told you to read the posting guidelines several times. "I didn't know" is not an excuse anymore when you were told that you're expected to know, and agreed to read them while signing up.

BTW, I have an ipod video, an upgrade from your device, and many videos I make are choppy. Simply put, the cpu is not powerful enough and the video decoder is not yet utilized. The video decoder is how apple is able to make videos play smoothly on the ipod.

The great thing about rockbox is it is open source. This means if you don't like how it works, you can grab the source code and fix it. Now hop to it, make some real contributions to this project.

Pink Floyd: I'd like to be frank with you. But considering Llorean's posts, he's already been frank with you. I can only recommend one thing to you... Google.

You post quite a bit here in this technical forum as if this were a bulletin board for any free-wheeling speculation and excited conversation. You have been off-topic in several of your threads, and the admins have had to move your threads, lock them, edit them, etc. If you really want to enjoy conversation of gaming and other speculative topics, I would suggest Googling some forums that cater to your tastes.

However, if you are really interested in technical issues and getting help with some of your problems, here is another recommendation: Explain yourself, and stay on topic. It doesn't take very long to be exact and actually ask questions having to do with a specific problem or request. In fact, you actually get helped that way! ;D

I hope I've been a help,
ComposerDude

Actually the ipod photo gets better framerates because the screen is smaller. Look it up in the mpegplayer wiki page.

Still, the only three players with "reasonable" video are the Gigabeat F and X, the iPod Nano I think. None of these players were designed for video playback except the iPod Video, and it has a chip we absolutely cannot use yet.

The Sansa and H300 had limited video support in their original firmwares but it was more a tacked on feature than anything else, and I believe on at least the Sansa we surpass that performance (or in some cases simply match it) anyway.

As per what Llorean had said, pink floyd, this is because the Broadcom chip the iPod video uses for video decoding and playback has no public documentation that we can pick up and study. This is why the iPod video port is going to be rather difficult to fully implement without some heavy wizardry and reverse engineering.

The MPEGplayer plugin is decoding everything in software at the moment, and because of certain factors, the iPod video port has pretty bad performance. Lack of full dual-core support on the PortalPlayer chip, large resolution, and lack of video hardware playback are all factors in this.

Seriously, do some research into what you're talking about first, before you come around saying this. It makes you look like an idiot and annoys us when you spout wild stories about what the hardware and software can do without any evidence to back them up.

Actually, just as a note, Mpegplayer is about the only thing effectively using the dual core support. ;)

The PortalPlayer chip is just not designed for video playback, it's just fast enough to do most of the music jobs "relatively well" and with the huge screen to drive, that just makes it worse.

Truly, Llorean, you are a gentleman and a scholar.  ;)

Frankly, I truly never saw that Mpegplayer does make use of the dual core support. I know that some dual-core support is in the kernel, but I didn't really know how much.

So thank you once more for that little tidbit of information. And now I shall take that information, open my brain up, and place it in with all of the coding knowledge that I hold within that grey matter of mine!

Why do Rockbox (and other F/OSS projects) rule our worlds? Because you're learning something new each and every day!  :)

Uh, actually, we learn something old every day. But then, you probably never watched Mister Rogers Neighborhood.
