How do I transfer files with RockBox?

I have an Apple iPod 3G.  I'm pretty new to RB, and so far have been transferring files by putting the iPod back into its normal Apple mode and then connecting it to the computer.  I'm just wondering if maybe I'm missing something, as it's a bit of a pain having to go back into the default firmware every time I want to access the iPod's hard drive.  Is there a way to transfer files while in the RockBox mode?

If you plug the Ipod to your computer it reboots to disc mode.

And if you put the hold switch on before connecting to USB, it will boot into the Apple firmware automatically, making it a relatively easy procedure.
