Hidden Files no longer hidden?! And other problems....
peanutismint:
I've loved RockBox after I began using it on my 3G Apple iPod about 2 weeks ago. However, it seems to be a little temperamental for me... last week I left the house with my iPod to go on a 4 hour train journey, only to find when I got on the train that RockBox would see all my files and load them but not play them, but rather would crash when it got to the 'now playing' screen. I tried a load of different files, and tried disabling things like ReplayGain in case it was that, but no cigar. It was a LOOONG and quiet trip for me!
Anywho, a quick re-install when I got home fixed the problem, but afaik I didn't do anything to RockBox prior to it breaking, which is why I'm a little worried that it kinda weirded out on me on its own.
Now, I'm having a similarly 'i didn't do anything!' problem. When I select 'Files' from the menu and go to browse my music, instead of just the usual music folders and the iPod's 'Notes' and 'Contacts' folders, I now also have a bunch of weirdly named folders and files which either were not there or were hidden before. Files like '._.Trashes', '.DS_Score' and folders like '.Spotlight-V100' and 'iPod_Control' have suddenly appeared. I'm obviously worried that this has happened without me knowing what I've done to make it happen, and that I might embark on another long journey only to find that RockBox has borked again...
Anyone have any ideas as to anything I might have done to make these two weird things happen? Or is RockBox just that buggy?

And what did you do before you did nothing? ;)

Those are files created by MacOS. I assume you simply changed the "Show filetypes" option by accident. You might also try to chkdsk / fsck your Ipod, perhaps this is related to filesystem errors.

No its not. At least not for me (and as far as I noticed quite some users).

I DID change the show filetypes option! And not even by accident! Hahah, thanks for pointing out my dumbness. No longer will I accuse RB of being buggy, I promise! :D
Still doesn't explain the first and far weirder problem though, although that was probably something I did too! Any other RB users ever have it crash when trying to play any file?
Febs:
If that happens again, try following the reset sequence. On later model iPods, you reset by pressing and holding Menu + Select simultaneously. I'm not sure if it is the same on the 3G.
scorche:
Menu and Play/Pause is the combination for the 3G iPods.
