No audio for current build :(
« on: August 25, 2007, 01:05:41 PM »
Hi there,
I'm a very happy user of rockbox for my Ipod Nano 1st gen, it has worked for about a year with me updating regularly with no problems, until recently! I hadn't updated since April and decided to do so, and now whenever i try to playback i get this error and the Ipod freezes up: i have to reboot with select+menu buttons. Jpeg viewer and all other plugins work flawlessly.

The error is:

Data abort
at 0003015C

I have tried serveral times, with several data types, mp3, wav, flac etc but error is the same. And i get the same error when trying to look at the Audio thread in Debug feautures (although the Ipod is not playing!)

I thank you in advance for your help :) if you need any more details i will give them no problem.
Thanks :)

EDIT: Ehm i realized now that you can't help me without the firmware number! :) It's r14456-070825. Thanks again.

Sounds like you are experiencing something similar to bug FS#7510 or possibly that bug even. I suggest you verifying against those report.

You mean this one? http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7510?histring=7510

Well it doesn't fit the description very much, in my case the player hangs immediately and doesn't even enter the WPS screen... it's just that message + the backdrop. The message appears immediately after trying to open any kind of music file. In that bug report the description is stuttering and skipping tracks, or hanging after some seconds... You think it might be the same problem, but accentuated (not waiting for the 5-7 secs to hang)?

Thanks again :)

Since you last upated in April, i think your bootloader is out of date.
So try installing the newest bootloader (via ipodpatcher) along with a current build.

I have no idea why the bootloader is so important AFTER it has booted but now everything works!!!!

Thanks a lot. Great work on rockbox ;) Bye!!!

Because it initializes some stuff Rockbox relies on. Older bootloaders didn't initialize the coprocessor correctly (but that was added quite a while ago, and now the common problem on the nano is the task I mentioned -- completely forgot about the bootloader ;) )

And now max cpu speed is 80mhz, not 75, nice! hehe (yeah, i like to watch the audio debug screen :D)

I have the same problem. Is the ipodpatcher already on the ipod? I found that on my ipod already, and just want to make sure its the same thing. I don't know what versionis on my nano, but on mine there is no database. When you boot it you see your files on the ipod.

If you hold down ">>" as the ipod boots, it will show information giving you the bootloader version you have installed.

You want to see bootloader version 1.1.

If you don't - either re-run ipodpatcher, or use RockboxUtility to install the latest bootloader.
