'undefined instruction at 30303028'
« on: August 24, 2007, 03:08:57 PM »
video ipod 5G 30GB, happily (for the most part) running RB since a month or so after I got it a few years ago.

started crashing more than usual after I loaded a recent latest build. progressively shorter windows of lucidity before going dark with only the the message in the subject line to gently berate me. tried loading a more recent latest build (r.14439-070823) with the same results. I hear the unit running pretty hard, the RB splash seems to last extra long, but most of the time it gets to the directory screen. I noticed that the unit does not stop running when it hits this point, even if I do not pick an option. It just goes around and around until that message appears.

unit DOES boot into appleware, so I was able to back up my files (7700+, mostly 64kbs m4a and 96kbs ogg) and load a select portion of my collection back in through itunes for a webless trip to canada that starts tomorrow.

hypotheses - too many files? simplex theme conflict? suggestions welcome - I have till about midnight EST if I need to hard reset and reload...

thanks
Todd

See if you can find a revision that causes this.  I.e. if all of the builds after a certain revision cause this behavior then it will give the developers something to look for.

thanks for the quick reply. seeing all the issues to which 'unsupported build' was the start of the solution, I went through the unsupported builds list to see if any rang a bell. senab's seemed vaguely familiar so I loaded the latest (7/30/07) and it seems to have solved the problem - I let it run for five minutes or so and no continuous run, no crash...time will tell, but I think it;'s fixed.

sorry to bother you guys! love that new pen & ink theme, btw; and without RB to support it and the other tweaks, it wouldn't be. donated a while back - may be time to renew my subscription!
