True Shuffling - How?
(1/1)
kedz83:
Well I recently got a 80 gig ipod and loaded rockbox and threw in bout 30 gigs worth of music. What I can't figure out is how can i shuffle songs where it would do one song from one folder/artist/album/etc. and go on to something completely different? Do I have to setup playlists? It bugs me that I have to be selective with songs. I'm a random person, so shuffling is good.
Thanks for help in advance.
rasher:
Simply add all songs to a dynamic playlist and shuffle that.
See also section 4.4 in the manual - Working with Playlists.

Here are 2 ways:
Make sure you have "Recursively Insert Directories" turned on. It's located in the Playlist submenu of General Settings. Then you can go to the base folder of your music collection and long select. Then choose insert shuffled.
OR
Turn on Shuffle in playback options. Then go to Database > Artists > and select any song.

Rockbox's shuffle mode is true random. You are just as likely to hear (for example) an ABBA song following an ABBA song as you are to hear a Bach song following an ABBA song.
If I'm not taking your quote too literally, what you are asking for is some sort of pseudo-random contextually-sensitive function which avoids playing two songs by the same artist/album back-to-back?
